OpenAI is reportedly getting ready to launch GPT-4.1, alongside a full version of its advanced “o3” reasoning model, according to a recent report from The Verge.
The upcoming release will also include smaller variants: GPT-4.1 mini and nano. This updated model is said to be an improved version of GPT-4.0, OpenAI’s flagship multimodal model introduced last year. The Verge article references a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Tibor Blaho, an AI engineer at AIPRM, who discovered multiple mentions of GPT-4.1 in the OpenAI API platform’s model listings.
Blaho highlighted these references in a tweet, confirming that preparations are underway for models labeled “o3,” “o4-mini,” and others. His discovery follows earlier findings in ChatGPT’s web code that also referenced “o4-mini,” suggesting that several new model versions are in development.
> “New ChatGPT web app version deployed just now (after midnight San Francisco time) adds mentions of ‘o4-mini’, ‘o4-mini-high’ and ‘o3’,” Blaho noted in a follow-up post on April 10, 2025.
Despite these signs, OpenAI has not officially commented on the upcoming release.
OpenAI has been at the center of the AI race, often making headlines for rapidly rolling out increasingly powerful models. Its ChatGPT-4.0 model made a strong impression with its blend of multimodal input and advanced reasoning capabilities, becoming so popular that OpenAI had to temporarily limit free-tier access due to overwhelming GPU demand. Later, the company expanded the memory features of ChatGPT, enabling the chatbot to retain longer conversations and context.
OpenAI has also introduced tools like an unlimited coding assistant earlier this year and recently launched Veo 2, a next-generation video creation tool aimed at rivaling Google’s Sora.
While OpenAI has yet to turn a profit and is in the process of transitioning from a non-profit to a for-profit structure, its valuation has skyrocketed to nearly $300 billion. Despite ChatGPT not yet surpassing Google as a search tool, it recently became the most downloaded app across app sto
res last month.
